We’ve all heard the horror stories. Our attorneys never use artificial intelligence for drafting. Here’s why.

• AI makes mistakes. It can’t reliably summarize emails or meetings, let alone summarize complex abstractions like law. Accuracy and reliability are hallmarks of good lawyers.

• AI has to be checked (and usually fixed) because it makes mistakes. That usually takes far longer than doing it right the first time.

• AI work product is inferior to existing, well-known, secondary resources. Attorneys who use AI use it to get summaries of the law and to create rough drafts of documents. There are treatises and form books for that. More importantly, those treatises and form books are created, vetted, and kept up-to-date by experts in the field.
